N EW YORK – The Queens edition of the Subway Series between the New York Mets and the New York Yankees included all the off-field gimmicks and silly jokes that were absent back in May when this matchup took place in the corporate setting of Yankee Stadium.

It didn’t look good, this series with the Yankees. They were battling injuries, pitching was scarce and they often had to use a hodgepodge of relievers to get through the game. Nevertheless, they won two of three.

The Yankees avoided the indignity of Subway sweep by mustering just enough, offensively and defensively, to snap a six-game losing streak with a 6-4 victory at Citi Field.
