U.S. President Donald Trump will make his trade deal decisions this week even as separate negotiations with China and the European Union continue, U.S. Commerce chief Howard Lutnick said on Tuesday ahead of Trump's self-imposed Aug.

Higher tariffs are set to go into effect on Aug. 1, and roughly two dozen countries could still negotiate with the administration to try to strike a better trade deal.

US imports into the EU will not face higher tariffs as part of the agreement, which also requires the bloc to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on US energy products and weapons. This was largely Trump’s dream scenario.

No one is denying Trump’s on a roll with trade. He can justifiably claim significant political victories with a series of framework deals with the EU, the UK, Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines that favor the United States by imposing one-sided tariffs.
