The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the Kansas City metro area as thunderstorms sweep across the region on Monday morning.

Since January, more than 3,100 flash flood warnings have been issued nationwide — the highest year-to-date total since tracking began for alerts in 1986.

At 7:57 p.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area, including northern Ellis County and northeastern Trego County. Between 1 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area.

The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for Johnson County, Wyandotte County, Cass County and Jackson County

The warning was issued for Ashe County. "The heavy rain has ended. Flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat. Please continue to heed remaining road closures," states the NWS Blacksburg VA. The warning is in effect until 9 p.m.

At 11:58 a.m. on Friday, the NWS San Diego CA released an updated flash flood warning in effect until 2 p.m. for San Bernardino County.

At 5:31 p.m. on Saturday, the NWS Raleigh NC issued a flash flood warning in effect until 8:45 p.m. The warning is for Alamance, Guilford, Orange and Person counties.

The National Weather Service issued both a flash flood warning and a flood advisory for parts of the Las Vegas valley Friday afternoon as scattered showers and thunderstorms began to hit.
