Philadelphia residents have been warned to brace for a largescale workers' strike designed to shut down key infrastructure, such as garbage removal, starting Tuesday.

Striking city workers are joining picket lines outside Philadelphia City Hall, public libraries and other worksites as nearly 10,000 unionized employees walked off the job in search of better pay and benefits.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Nearly 10,000 city workers in Philadelphia who collect trash, answer 911 calls, maintain city pools and perform other jobs went on strike Tuesday after contract negotiations broke down. District Council 33 President Greg Boulware said the city hadn’t agreed to a high enough wage increase, WPVI-TV reported.

Philadelphia will be getting its first new professional team since the Union in the MLS was founded in 2008 and began play in the 2010 season. The WNBA coming to the city is a big get as the league is growing quickly and will be looking to bring more excitement to the City of Brotherly Love.

The WNBA is expanding to 18 teams over the next five years with Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia all set to join the league by 2030. Cleveland will begin play in 2028, Detroit in 2029
