A collaborative "Desert to Rainforest" Youth Access Grant, funded by the Smithsonian Institution, is linking future teachers, middle school classrooms and ecosystem science in Phoenix and Panama.

She and teacher Maria Niño-Soto spent 20 weeks developing and tweaking the virtual rainforest, which offers, in essence, a field trip without leaving the classroom.
