Equity benchmarks recovered from Monday’s sharp decline, with oil and gas stocks leading the gains after CLSA upgraded ONGC to “high conviction outperform.” The 30-share BSE Sensex rose 234.12 points or 0.30 per cent to close at 78,199.11, while the broader NSE Nifty 50 advanced 91.85 points or 0.39 per cent to end at 23,707.90.

HDFC Bank Ltd shares were down 1.56 per cent at Rs 1,722 after the Q3 update. December was the third consequent quarter of sequential corporate loan decline as the banks continued to choose profitability over balance sheet growth.

The Indian stock market experienced a crash during the morning trading session as banking and metal stocks fell on 6, 2025.

The Sensex and Nifty50 index fell over 1% due to poor performance of private and state-owned banks as well as consumer sectors. On the brighter side, Bajaj Finance recorded a significant 28% YoY growth.

Sensex and Nifty 50 fell over a percent each amid heavy selling across the board. Broader markets also reeled under selling pressure as the Nifty Midcap 100 and the Nifty Smallcap 100 indices declined over 2% each.

AM, the BSE Sensex stood at 79,323.56, up by 100 points or 0.13%, and Nifty50 was at 24,029.25, up by 25 points or 0.10%.
