Schools, businesses, and households will participate in a planned statewide tornado drill Wednesday afternoon, amid Michigan's "Severe Weather Preparedness Week

The safest place to be during a tornado (we'll keep using that as an example) is in a basement or storm shelter. Underground will always be the best option — you want to be as low as you can be and away from windows and doors.
