The Trump administration has designated eight Latin American crime organizations as “foreign terrorist organizations,” upping its pressure on cartels operating in the U.S. and on anyone aiding them.

The U.S. State Department is moving to designate Tren de Aragua, Sinaloa Cartel and six other Latin American drug cartels and gangs as foreign terrorist organizations, according to an unpublished notice in the Federal Register posted Wednesday.

The United States government is formally designating eight Latin American organized crime groups that also operate in the U_S_ to be “foreign terrorist organizations.”
