Junior Alvarado was given a $62,000 fine and suspended for two upcoming racing days for striking Sovereignty eight times with his riding crop during the Kentucky Derby.

Just a few days after winning the Kentucky Derby, Sovereignty was ruled out of running in the Preakness Stakes.

Sovereignty, winner of the Kentucky Derby (G1), will not run in the May 17 Preakness Stakes (G1) at Pimlico Race Course. Instead, he will be pointed toward the June 7 Belmont Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course.
