BMW's Neue Klasse models are set to be a major leap forward over its existing electric offerings. They'll feature new styling, rear-biased drivetrains, and apparently some advanced computers. The company revealed some details about the latter this week.

This new platform officially kicks off with the electric iX3 SUV later this year, and a sporty electric 3-series sedan will follow.

Group design director Adrian van Hooydonk confirmed the Neue Klasse series will start with the iX3 launch this year, before this one follows in 2026. They’ll have those fancy Gen6 batteries, a radical new electronic architecture, and an interior space that wouldn’t look out of place in a sci-fi movie.

The Neue Klasse iX3 entered pre-production in November at BMW's Debrecen, Hungary, plant. It's expected to borrow styling from the Vision Neue Klasse X concept unveiled in March 2024, and will be followed by a sedan—which might revive the BMW i3 name—based on the Vision Neue Klasse concept first shown in late 2023.

BMW is working on a facelifted 5-Series that has Neue Klasse styling cues. The front end is all-new and we can also expect a revamped interior. The car could have an upgraded six-cylinder engine as well as improved PHEV and EV options.

A source within BMW has said that the latest 3 Series, based heavily on the Neue Klasse concept, will also feature an ICE option.
