The Oklahoma State Board of Education voted Tuesday to approve a proposal requiring parents to report their immigration or citizenship status when enrolling their children in school.

State Superintendent Ryan Walters says a proposed administrative rule concerning immigration status could be used on parents as well as students.

The Oklahoma Board of Education approved a measure requiring parents to provide their child’s immigration status when enrolling them in school. The measure passed Tuesday in a 6-0 vote after a brief 20-minute discussion.
