Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) slammed the single bill the Florida legislature took up out of session, claiming it sets up Florida to become a “defacto sanctuary state.” DeSantis called the Florida legislature to meet in a special session to begin supporting President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

Even as DeSantis called the new bill "weaker," legislative Republicans pushed their legislation through the committee process Monday.

Monday morning, the Florida House moved swiftly to end the session without taking any action and call its own special session on illegal immigration.

The bills, in part, would place new requirements on police to help with immigration enforcement efforts and eliminate in-state tuition for undocumented students.
