Manchester City have signed Uzbekistan central defender Abdukodir Khusanov from Ligue 1 side Lens on a four-and-a-half-year deal, the Premier League club announced on Monday.

The Athletic reported that Khusanov attracted interest from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, and they will disappointed to miss out on a coveted young centre-back. City have conceded more goals than any team in the top six of the Premier League, who will all be interested to see if this signing can improve a porous back line.

Khusanov, who turns 21 on Feb. 29, has made 31 senior appearances for Lens including 24 times in Ligue 1 and six times across three European competitions.

Manchester City have completed the signing of defender Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens. On January 10, The Athletic reported City had reached an agreement worth €40million (£33.7m; $40.8m) plus bonuses with the Ligue 1 club for the signing of Khusanov.

The Uzbekistan international defender will join up with Pep Guardiola’s squad for the second part of the 2024/25 season, with his contract keeping him tied to the club until the summer of 2029.
