A group of detainees at the detention center dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” have been on a hunger strike for more than nine days in protest of what they call inhumane and dangerous living conditions.

One of the detainees, Pedro Hernández, was hospitalized during the strike but continued to refuse food, he said on Thursday.
