The injury is a tough break for Scheffler, who by missing the event at Kapalua is out of a chance compete in the season’s first signature event, with the field of 2024 winners and the top 50 finishers in the FedEx Cup standings vying for a total purse of $20 million and first prize of $3.6 million.

"On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass," Scheffler's manager, Blake Smith, said in a statement. "Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery.
