What "romance" have you been hate-watching? Rom-Coms? All the best stories have romance in them, because humans are going to fall in love no matter what is going on, and love is one of the most powerful motivators in life. But yes, Outlander does it's romance extremely well, mainly by giving us equal POVs, and complex characters.

I’m not sure if I want to commit to 800+ pages right now plus all the other books in the series but I ALSO know books are usually better than the show/movie. Help me out!

It's very soapy, like dime store romance novels, and eventually it dawns on you that every other scene is a long drawn out sex scene and more time to see Jaime's pecs. Aug 19, 2014 · Outlander, on the other hand, really isn't. While we do have a woman protagonist, a lot of the show takes a very balanced approach. The story thus far really doesn't follow the blueprints of a traditional romance novel (and the author has insisted that this isn't a romance story, it's a drama, a fantasy, a triller, etc.).

I also loved Marco Polo! Very different from Outlander (more politics, less romance), but a gripping historical drama with high production values, and set in a time period I knew very little about, so it felt borderline educational (in a good way). Another totally different show that I loved was The Good Wife.

"The Wedding" deserves all its accolades. It truly is the most perfect representation of the best romance novels I've ever read, and I've read sub-genres that would make most of us blush. We all have our favorite tropes with romance: Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, etc.

Apr 9, 2023 · First and foremost Outlander is a historic romance series at it's core. The characters and setting all get explored in detail. The "traveling back in time" thing is more of a plot device in order to have fun with the narrative of a woman living in the past who is literally ahead of her time in the way she acts and thinks.

The romance and action/other plot points are balanced well, the books go way deeper into the characters lives and especially Claire’s thoughts than the show can, and if you like the show then you know it’s a good story. All in all, I think if you enjoy the …
