The original Benjamin Chew was a Philadelphia Quaker who became a lawyer the old-fashioned way, by reading law and apprenticing under Andrew Hamilton. Hamilton is known for the 1735 John Peter Zenger case, which established truth as an absolute defense to libel and defamation.
