It is my retirement hobby and a place dedicated to the materials for and tying Atlantic Salmon flies. I have expanded to include Classic Rangeley Style Trolling Streamers as well as other “Classic” style things.
I’ve tied flies for close to 50 years and have been hooked on classic Atlantic Salmon Flies since 1978. That is when Paul Jorgensen’s book on tying the Atlantic Salmon flies first came out. Unfortunately, his methods and lessons did not produce the finished product that I wanted.
Jim and I have been friends since the first Atlantic Salmon Fly Summit held in Cleveland last century. Here is a picture of Jim holding a Salmon (albeit a Pacific fish) in 2004: Jim is one of the more prolific salmon fly tiers I know.
Cobblers Wax is as essential to tying Salmon Flies as the thread. The best Wax available for our purposes is now back in stock. Our Friend William S (Bill) Bailey has not only supplied Cobblers and White but a Cake Similar to the Thompson Tin and Overton’s Wonder wax as well as Liquid Wax that can be quite handy.
My late friend Don Coleman was very instrumental in my journey into salmon flies. In the late 1980’s Don hosted a salmon fly tying class in Chicago where Wayne Luallen taught Don and a few others including Gene Sunday.
