May 27, 2023 · I’ve never had any issues with 400 ISO film in bright daylight, and especially negative film. 400 is the perfect, versatile film speed. It can take a bit of overexposure, but it will also be handy if you pop into the shade or inside.

Jul 24, 2017 · If you're looking for a film that you can reasonably use indoors without a flash, but which will also work outdoors in a pinch, go with ISO 400. Basically the question is whether or not ISO 1600/3200 is overkill when using it in bright natural light.

Jun 30, 2023 · I've always worked to a "sunny f/11" rule - 1/500 and f/11 with 400 ISO film on the brightest of days. 400ISO gives you a lot of overhead for varying light - but also for filtration when using black and white film.

Jul 28, 2023 · ASA/ISO 100 film is a good daylight film for spring/summer. This allows you to shoot at 125/11 outside and open to 1000/4. ISO 200 about the same as above for fall/winter ISO 400 outside forces you to go to 500/11 and doesn't give you much play in depth of field.

Feb 21, 2013 · I use ISO 400 at EI 250, so even in bright sun, I shoot 1/300 f/16 (my top shutter speed). Even at rated speed you should have 1/400 f/16. Double-check your metering technique if you are getting 1/2000 f/8.

Oct 11, 2023 · You can shoot fine with 400 speed film even in the harshest daylight. But I’m gonna make a wild guess and say the 400 speed film you used was Ultramax. In which case, that’s just what Ultramax looks like.
