The Treaty Oak is a Texas live oak tree and the last surviving member of the Council Oaks, which was a grove of 14 trees that served as a sacred meeting place for Comanche and Tonkawa tribes going back 500 years. Settlers from the US states had started moving into the area by the 1830’s, and Stephen F. Austin supposedly met with local Natives here to propose a treaty, hence the name Treaty Oak.
